Interesting 12 minute talk with Dr. Christine Carter – Change is hard, it takes effort, it requires motivation, and it requires MORE than willpower – change depends on your willingness to be ‘bad’ at something, rather than being perfect, or excellent, right from the start. I’ve experienced this myself – minimal effort is often better than nothing, we have to start somewhere – the key is to get started, manage expectations and start small. Shift your goal to repetition, rather than high achievement, be willing to be mediocre at whatever you are trying to do, but be mediocre every day, take that step every day. Initiating the behaviour is the hardest part and gets the momentum started, momentum and repetition lead to new habits being created, and habits mean automaticity/automatic pilot, they require less effort. https://www.ted.com/talks/christine_carter_confessions_of_a_bad_exerciser?utm_source=Greater+Good+Science+Center&utm_campaign=b680e7ace3-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_O1_02_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_5ae73e326e-b680e7ace3-73224431
